Rainy Races at Watkins Glen International

After missing the first ever Global MX-5 Cup race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for a flood of SAT and AP tests the same week, you can imagine how excited I was to tie loose ends on all my standardized testing and immediately head to Watkins Glen for the third and fourth round of the series!

The first race, plagued by pouring rain, I took advantage of the amazing BF Goodrich rain tires and picked through the crowd one car at a time. In some of the closest and most action-packed racing of my life, I made up about 13 spots before driving through some oil and losing 4 positions in the last 3 corners. Despite the slight loss of position in the last lap of the race, the closely-matched cars, not to mention the downpour, made for some of the safest and closest racing I’ve ever experienced.

In the second race, I almost managed to escape an eight-car crash at the onset of the race, but got tagged on the left rear. With the incredible help from all the guys at McCumbee McAleer Racing, I went back onto the track despite a crash only 3 laps down, and ended in 24th place out of more than 30 cars.

Despite a disappointing second race, the entire weekend was amazing! A huge thank you to the guys at MMR, Mazda Motorsports, Battery Tender, and BF Goodrich for giving me the opportunity to race in such a competitive series.
